Rules for Tournaments

Introduction: While rules may have varied in other tournaments you’ve played in the past, it is crucial that you read, understand, and adhere to the rules set forth in this website. The rules found in our tournaments are generally similar to past Farm No Magic Tournaments, though you might find slight altercations. Many modifications to the rules have occurred gradually over the course of Grief history, and are done for the advancement of fair play. For that reason, rules are subject to change or new rules will be introduced if deemed necessary; however, rule changes will be set forth ahead of time, not during the middle of a tournament. Though our rules list may appear lengthy, it is important that you comprehend the rules, as it makes for smoother and quicker tournaments. During tournaments, there will be multiple moderators present to assist in disputes and to help clear up any confusion regarding a particular rule. Simply send a message to a moderator, and he will try to get back to you either through message or chat. Please allow some time for a moderator to respond, as moderators are often busy resolving conflict, or even playing a series of matches themselves. If the moderator does not respond, try contacting a different one listed. All moderators are listed in Rule #1 below. Thanks for playing!

-Specific Settings for the Match:

  • Map: Farm

  • Start on Round 15

  • Magic: Disabled

  • Headshots Only: Disabled

-How Many Games Does it Take to Win?

  • Round of 32, Round of 16, and Quarterfinals are Best of 5 Series

  • Semi-finals are Best of 7 Series

  • Championship Finals is Best of 9 Series (NEW)

-Rules In-Game:

1. Reporting Results to Moderators: All match results should be reported as soon as a series is completed to any of the following moderators: qp Derek, Nice Elmo, or x RaMb0 4 L1F3. This allows for the brackets to be updated faster, which in turn allows for others to prepare and know who they must play next. The moderators listed above should also be contacted if you need assistance in any dispute or clarification of a rule. Moderators interpret the law, so-to-speak, as they will have the final say in things, and their word must be respected. We're here to help you, as maintaining the integrity of the game and allowing  everyone a fair chance is important  to us.

2. CIA or CDC?Team types chosen in the pre-game lobby should remain the same throughout a series. On Farm, the two team types are CIA & CDC. If both teams feel that having a specific team type is vital, you may play “rock, paper, scissors” to determine who gets to play as that team type throughout the entire series. Playing as only CIA or as only CDC throughout the series’ entirety prevents confusion as to what team you are on while in-game.

3. No Blocking in Beginning: Within the first 30 seconds of the match, all players must be given the opportunity to obtain an MP5. This means that you cannot block the stairway and prevent the other team from obtaining the weapon. This is because spawns of players in the beginning of matches are random, so getting to the stairs before another player is not a display a skill, but is rather unfair. However, you will be able to do perform the “Pro House Block” once all players in the game have obtained their MP5. (For more information on the Pro House Block and other terms that you may be unfamiliar with in the “Rules” Page, refer to the “Grief Terminology” Page).

4. BleedoutsIf all members of the enemy team are downed, your team MUST survive until the ENTIRE enemy team has bled out. Failure to survive until the enemy team is bled out will result in a “tie/restart,” producing neither a win nor a loss, and the game must be replayed on the same host. You can either end the game and restart it, or simply continue playing when you hear Richtofen utter the phrase “Round restarted, you have given the other team another chance!” You do not need to complete the round to win. Once the other team has fully bled out, wait for the host to end the game. If the host ends the game before the entire enemy team has bled out, this will result in an automatic loss.

5. Restarting GamesNo game should be restarted or replayed unless one the following conditions occur:

-There is a “tie” or “restart” (See Rule #4)

-Someone lags out in the first 30 seconds of the game

-Someone experiences “console lag” in the first thirty seconds of the game.

If somebody on your team lags out after 30 seconds, and you quit, the enemy team will be awarded a win. Unless you are very positive that your teammate lagged out or experienced lag in the first 30 seconds of play, and not after it, we recommend that you complete the game as a 3v4 rather than take a loss by quitting after the 30 seconds have passed. All disputes regarding this rule will be reviewed by moderators in Theater Mode, and they will be able to see the time in which the lag out occurred, so play fair and be smart. If you are having connection problems, we recommend that you quickly restart your hardware and/or router while waiting on the Main Menu before a match.

6. Console Lag While Enemy team is Downed: If you are the final player of your team alive, AND you are waiting for the enemy team to bleed out completely, AND you suddenly experience your “console lag” and die as a result, you will still be awarded the win. However, you must be clearly safe and not facing imminent danger when this occurs. If disputed, moderators will review the gameplay and use their knowledge to determine if the player was safe before the “console lag” occurred, as well as if it was actually “console lag.” This rule comes into play very rarely, so do not be too concerned about it.

7. (NEW) Determining Host of Final Game in Tied Series: The information that follows is very CRUCIAL, as this is a new rule. The community has spoken, and we will be altering the way that host for the final game of a tied series is determined. Previously, "rock, paper, scissors" would determine who would host the final game of a tied set, but now host for the final game will be rewarded to the team who WON their respective games more quickly (Simply review the times in your "Recent Games"). If for some reason it cannot be determined by the two teams as to who played quicker, a moderator will be called to review and add up the total game time for each respective team by looking at each teams' "Recent Games". Since the time we are looking at is based off the number displayed in the "Recent Games", we encourage that you do not end the game earlier than you should if you are host and  lost a particular game. In addition to this, a host must end the game as soon as possible after the final bleedout has occurred. Failure to do so may be determined as tampering with this rule, and if you feel someome is intentionally holding off in ending the game in a deliberate effort to prolong your win time, please contact a moderator, as he will look individually at each and every game to determine which team played quicker. Dashboarding a game results in disappearance of the game in  "Recent Games," so  may result in the automatic rewarding of host to the other team for the final game of a series.

8. Host Rule for 2 Bars: Host in a lobby is not allowed to distribute more than two 2 Bar Connections to the enemy team. Connections that drop to a 2 bar mid-game do not apply to this rule, since by that time the game has surpassed 30 seconds and you cannot quit . With this being said, a team is allowed to select whatever host they please on their team so long as they don’t give three or four players 2 bars on the enemy team. This is the advantage of having host, an advantage that will also be provided to your team. If you want, you can have a “Connection Agreement” before the start of the series in which both teams mutually agree that they will be give the other team a specific host that will benefit everyone the most, when it is their turn to host. This agreement must be documented by sending a message to a moderator beforehand. If no host is capable of giving the enemy team the acceptable connection as defined above, please contact a moderator. If there is a dispute regarding this rule, a moderator will join in the game and see what types of connection the enemy team gets, and will then determine if the host is abiding by this rule.

9. Substitutes: Substitutes will be allowed during a tournament if a particular player is no longer able to participate, with one exception. Once you participate in the tournament and are eliminated by another team, you are NOT allowed to substitute for another team that is still in contention of winning. This also means that if someone substitutes for you, you will not be able to rejoin the particular tournament. In short, you can only play with one team per tournament, and violation to follow this rule may result in the elimination of the team you illegally joined.

10. No CheatingNo cheating will be allowed to take place during a tournament. This includes the use of mods. Everyone is here to play fairly and have fun. In addition to this, DDoS/IP Booting and lag switching are not allowed and will result in a disqualification from the tournament, and even a possible ban for future tournaments.
